Course Description

Effective public health planning and messaging is a vital component of mass dispensing during a public health emergency.  Communities with diverse cultural origins limited English speaking often require additional planning, training and exercising to avoid cultural clashes and miscommunication. This interactive webinar will provide a brief introduction to common cultural constructs and values among the Latino population and focus on tangible examples of how public health workers and emergency responders can increase participation in public health planning and preparedness among Latinos through culturally competent practice.

Upon completion of the training, participants will be able to:

·         Describe at least two cultural differences that might impact mass dispensing activities.

·         Identify culturally appropriate strategies and practices to enhance participation during medical countermeasure (MCM) clinical operations.

·         Describe “Promising Practices” implemented by local health departments.

·         Develop examples of messaging to help increase participation at MCM clinical operations.
