Program Description

Welcome to the New Public Health Educator Continuing Education Program.

Background: The New York State Sanitary Code require all newly hired public health educators at local health departments (LHDs) in New York State changes to complete a minimum of 15 hours of applicable continuing education within their first year of employment

Questions: Email edlearn@health.ny.gov or call 518-473-4223 and select Tom Reizes or Abbey Greenbaum from the phone tree.

The Public Health Educator Continuing Education Program (formerly: PHEd Core Curriculum) was developed to assist in meeting this requirement. This is the fourth revision of the curriculum to include new strategic skills training since introduction in 2008. These include change management, persuasive communication, systems thinking as well as collective impact courses and new versions of courses discussing community dimensions of public health practice.

NOTE: This program is intended to support new and existing public health educators in their role at local health departments (LHD) in NYS. If you are having difficulty meeting this requirement within the first year of employment at an NYS-based LHD please contact LMS Adminstration at 518-473-4223 and request the extension for Abbey Greenbaum or Tom Reizes for assistance.

Enrolling In The Program:

  1. The NYLearnsPH.com LMS is introducing one-click program enrollment.
    1. If a course only has one available/active section, then the learner will be automatically enrolled in that course section when they choose to enroll in the program.
    2. If a course has more than one active section, then the learner will be required to select and enroll in one of the available sections.
    3. Alternately, if the available sections are full and/or have an active waitlist -OR- requires administrator approval, then the course will be added to a list of pending (program) courses until the learner's course status is resolved.
  2. Once enrolled, the program will be added to My Courses > My Programs area.
    1. Click on the program name and you will be able to take any actions needed with respect to the program in question.

If you have completed any of the program courses outside of the LMS they will NOT display as complete on the LMS.  To correct this, please contact the LMS administrator at edlearn@health.ny.gov and include electronic copies of any relevant completion certificates.

If you have any questions about the Continuing Education requirement, program/course enrollment or completion email edlearn@health.ny.gov or call 518-473-4223 and ask to speak with Tom Reizes or Abbey Greenbaum.
