Course Description
This training will provide a broad overview of potential care needs for the pediatric patient involved in an emergency/disaster situation. This was part of a 1 day training sponsored by the Capital District Regional Health Emergency Preparedness Coalition. Topics covered include: • Pediatric Disaster Preparedness in Emergency Departments • Unique anatomical and physiological properties in pediatric patients in disasters • Principles of Pediatric Triage • Triage tools & algorithms (START vs. SALT) • PEARLs/Pitfalls of Pediatric triage Objectives: At the conclusion of the presentation, the participants will be able to: 1.Recognize the need to prepare for Pediatric disasters 2.Identify the basic steps involved in pediatric disaster triage 3.Describe the fundamental difference between adult and pediatric disaster triage
