Course Description

This webinar is intended for the registered nurse, clinician, and health care worker tasked with the care and case management of the TB patient.

Course Objectives:

Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss CDC’s guidelines regarding the use of a new regimen for the treatment of latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI).
    • Recommendations for use of an isoniazid-rifapentine regimen with direct observation to treat LTBI.

Question and Answer session:

This webinar ends with a question and answer session about the regimen.  Questions covered are vitamin B6 supplementation; minimum/maximum # days between weekly doses and how many weeks is needed to be considered completing the 12 week regimen; DOT by private providers and in non-traditional settings; monthly clinical assessment and clinical monitoring needed; lab work for evaluation and follow-up; blood pressure monitoring; HIV/TB and starting ART; pregnancy occurring during treatment with this regimen; special considerations for children; using the regimen in other immune compromised individuals such as those on chemotherapy, prednisone, and those on treatment for rheumatoid arthritis; and prioritizing who should get the regimen.
