Course Description

In today’s complex healthcare environment, emergency planning is essential for preparedness and also to meet the requirement imposed by mandatory regulations, as those from The Joint Commission and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.  These regulatory bodies require a comprehensive Continuity of Operations (COOP) plan. This course provides an in depth presentation of key components to implement a COOP program and enables an effective, long term approach to mitigating the risk of clinical and business interruption. Global Vision Consortium offers a COOP course that demonstrates the steps to develop a COOP for healthcare organizations or review/update an existing COOP to ensure compliance and completeness.  The course includes break out sessions for participants to practice the essential steps of developing a COOP.

Learning Objectives

•    Discuss the Responsibilities of the Healthcare Coalition Members in Continuity Planning.
•    Compare and Contrast Continuity and Emergency Management.
•    Identify the Elements of a Continuity Plan.
•    Utilize the Hazard Vulnerability (Risk) Assessment to Guide Continuity Planning.
•    Develop skills to identify mission-essential services and the maximum downtime for each service.
•    Conduct a Business Process and Impact Analysis.
•    Outline Next Steps in the Development of the Hospital Continuity Plan.
•    Provide Resources for Continuity Planning/ Continuity Planning toolbox.
•    Establish and conduct program/planning evaluation and COOP maintenance.
