The public health job market has shifted in recent years, making it important for job seekers to adapt their strategies. In this webinar, Heather Krasna will share practical insights to help public health professionals navigate today’s hiring landscape more effectively. Participants will explore how job search approaches need to evolve in response to changes in the market, including the importance of applying quickly and strategically.
The session will also highlight how networking, when combined with other job search strategies, can significantly improve the chance of securing interviews. Attendees will leave with a clearer understanding of how to approach their job search in a more proactive, informed, and competitive way.

Heather Krasna, PhD, MS, EdM
Heather Krasna is a public health workforce researcher, higher education career services practitioner, and advisor to public health organizations. She is co-author of 101+ Careers in Public Health, 3rd Edition, and author of Jobs That Matter: Find a Stable, Fulfilling Career in Public Service. She currently serves on several national and international committees, such as the de Beaumont Foundation's National Consortium for Public Health Workforce and ASPPH Framing the Future Task Force. She provides training and consultation to national public health organizations and health departments on strategic hiring approaches and recruitment marketing, and she is also the designer of the Columbia Public Health Advocacy Academy, a Massive Open Online Course for public health students. Her research focuses on employment outcomes of public health graduates, labor market competition for graduates, occupational classifications, evidence-based job descriptions, salary disparities, career decision-making, and the governmental public health workforce. As Associate Dean of Career and Professional Development at Columbia Mailman, she leads efforts to ensure positive post-graduate outcomes for Mailman students. She has more than 25 years' experience in providing individual career advising to mission-driven students and professionals as well as advising employers on hiring strategies.
