Course Description & Overall Goal: This webinar will address the TB prevention and elimination efforts in New York City, in the United States, and across the globe. Topics will include a review of local epidemiology, research findings and latest TB guidelines.
Who Should Atttend: The webinar is open to physicians, nurses, public health staff, and other health care workers who manage patients at risk for or diagnosed with TB infection or disease.
Why Course Is Needed: As the incidence of TB continues to decline, maintaining clinical expertise is particularly challenging especially as the cases are more complex to diagnosis and manage. Ongoing training and education are important for clinicians so they can develop and enhance skills in the diagnosis of TB, follow recommended treatment guidelines, and interact effectively with public health agencies.
Objectives:
Upon completion of this webinar, participants should be better able to:
- Recognize the epidemiology of tuberculosis in New York City to make informed decisions about outreach interventions and allocation of resources.
- Apply updated recommendations, research findings, and best practices for testing and treating TB disease
- Apply updated recommendations, research findings, and best practices for testing and treating latent tuberculosis infection with the goal of increasing treatment initiation and completion.
