Course Description

 DISCLAIMER:
The FLRTC Hazmat for First Receiver Operations Level Online Training is based on OSHA recommendations and standards. For details please refer to OSHA 1910.120(q)(6)(ii) and OSHA Best Practices for Hospital-Based First Receivers, Training First Receivers.
These training materials are intended to assist employers, workers, and others as they cooperatively work to improve workplace health and safety. While the training content provided attempts to thoroughly address specific topics, it is not possible to include discussion of everything necessary to ensure a healthy and safe working environment in a presentation of this nature. This information must be understood as a tool for addressing workplace hazards, rather than an exhaustive statement of an employer’s legal obligations, which are defined by statute, regulations, and standards. To the extent that this information references practices or procedures that may enhance health or safety, it is the employer’s responsibility to create standard operating procedures to comply with required statutes, regulations, or standards. Over time, regulators may modify rules and interpretations in light of new technology, information, or circumstances. Employers must keep apprised of such developments and review information on these wide range of occupational safety and health topics. Frequently visiting regulatory web sites can assist employers with these efforts.

BACKGROUND & PURPOSE:
The taping and online packaging of this course was funded through a grant from the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) under the New York State Department of Health Office of Health Emergency Preparedness awarded to the University of Rochester Medical Center - Finger Lakes Regional Training Center. The content was recorded in 2019-2020.

The online course is comprised of 10 self-paced video modules. Learners will receive information on hazard recognition specific to chemical, biological and radiological agents of concern, contamination control principles and decontamination response logistics as required to meet the didactic portion of the HazMat for First Receiver Training. At the conclusion of each module, learners must complete a knowledge check. This online course can be completed in approximately 3 1/2 hours.

In order to meet OSHA standards for 8 hrs of operations level training, learners will need to review facility specific hazmat plans, policies and procedures, demonstrate competency in the proper donning and doffing of PPE, and complete the hospital's respirator medical evaluation questionnaire. A competency verification check box is included at the conclusion of certain online modules to prompt the learner to complete these additional requirements. Learners should coordinate this with their employer. A downloadable checklist to help track progress of requirements will be available during the course introduction.

TARGET HEALTCARE AUDIENCE: Hospital-based healthcare providers who have been designated to provide treatment, triage, decontamination or other services to contaminated individuals.
