Background
This web streamed training, the sixth the New York State Department of Health has produced in collaboration with the New York State Office of Mental Health and SUNY New Paltz Institute for Disaster Mental Health, will include two related segments. The first part will focus on how participants can support the needs of children following disasters and other collective traumatic events, in a developmentally appropriate and trauma-informed manner. The second segment will address the potential mental health consequences for responders when assisting or treating children following a traumatic event.
The webcast will provide skills for coping with these emotional challenges and maintaining responder resilience as well as addressing the needs of child survivors directly.
This three-hour training will be broadcast live from the NYS Office of General Services Media Service Center and simultaneously web streamed to groups gathered in sites around the state.

Mental health, hospital, public health workers, or anyone likely to become involved in the disaster response in their communities.
